Meet KITA (formerly Wynona)!

This sweet heeler/shepherd/husky mix is about 14 months old, 50 lbs., with medium energy level. She can be timid at first, but warms up quickly and is good with other dogs. She is an absolute snuggler and is full of puppy nibbles and curiosity! She has seen a cat from across a yard and rabbits from down the sidewalk and was very curious about them.

Most of her early life was at a shelter, so once she entered a foster home, she began to discover how to be a family member and she has already mastered many obedience commands. She is housetrained, uses a doggie door, and loves to be in the yard. She would do best with someone who works from home or who will take her to doggie daycare (which she LOVES!), as she doesn't care to be confined to a crate for long periods of time.  Her foster has been working on this with her and she is improving, but she still barks occasionally while in there.  She will enter and nap in her crate freely with the door open. She is great on a leash and doesn't bark much (unless she is alerting to something specific), she has not been destructive, and shares her toys for the most part. She doesn't like to share toys or treats that she associates with her crate.

Kita will need an owner who is experienced with heeler/shepherd breeds. Though she does wonderfully outside the home greeting strangers, she is territorial in the home and yard and will need considerable continued training to get her comfortable with strangers being in the home. Although she will need some patience and gentle guidance, this girl is truly delightful and once she trusts you, which doesn't take long, she will love you to the moon and back!

Kita will need a house with a yard. We do not think she would do well with apartment living.  Her foster's yard has a 4-foot split rail fence with wire between the slats and she has not tried to jump the fence or to dig under it.
